Changelog
Release history for Convocept. The plugin's bundled readme.txt keeps only the latest releases; the complete history lives here.
1.0.1 — 2026-10-13
A fix for sites on PHP 7.4 to 8.1. Recommended for every site on PHP older than 8.2.
Fixed
- Links and inline code in comments on PHP 7.4 to 8.1. In comments written with the Convocept composer, links, web addresses and inline code showed as a number instead (for example "see 0"), and PHP logged a "Null byte in regex" warning. They display correctly again after updating. The stored comments were never changed, so nothing needs repairing, and the update clears the cached comment HTML straight away.
Changed
- The plugin's readme links to the Convocept website, these docs, the migration guides and support.
1.0.0 — 2026-10-13
The first release of Convocept: a server-rendered comment system with zero JavaScript on page load.
Added
- Fast comment thread. Comments are rendered in PHP into the page, with no script on page load, no extra requests and no layout shift. The interactive script (about 6 KB gzipped) loads when a reader nears the comments. See Performance.
- Threaded replies with inline reply forms, Load more comments and Show more replies, and comment links that open the right page and highlight the comment.
- Composer with a formatting toolbar, safe Markdown, a preview and an edit window with a countdown.
- Upvotes and ordering by oldest, newest or most upvoted, and pinned comments.
- Optional live updates that show new comments while the page is open.
- Moderation in the thread (approve, pin, spam, trash) and spam protection without CAPTCHAs: a hidden trap field, a signed timing check and per-visitor rate limits, on top of WordPress's own rules and Akismet.
- Comment subscriptions with double opt-in, one-click unsubscribe, a Follow button to subscribe without commenting, a page to manage subscriptions in the thread's design, background sending, a block and a shortcode.
- Disqus importer with a dry run, resumable batches, duplicate detection and a WP-CLI command.
- Structured data for comments, joining the Yoast SEO and Rank Math graphs when they are active.
- Its own design that looks the same in every theme and takes only the theme's font: Light, Dark or Follow the reader's device, and your accent colour. Works with classic themes and block themes (Convocept replaces the Comments block and core's comment blocks on the posts it handles).
- Page-cache safe: no personal data or security tokens in the page; rendered comment lists are cached. WordPress's
comment-reply.jsis not loaded where Convocept shows. - Crawlable comment pages with real links.
- Settings screen under Comments → Convocept, with General, Appearance, Comment form, Spam & moderation, Advanced, Import and Help. Settings → Discussion names the options Convocept replaces, and the Comments screen shows why a comment was held.
- Privacy tools: personal data export and erasure for subscriptions and upvotes, suggested privacy policy text, and a choice to store commenters' IP addresses in full, anonymized or not at all.
- Accessibility checked against WCAG 2.2 AA, right-to-left languages, and a translation template.
- Optional deletion of all Convocept data when the plugin is deleted.
